Walking in the Spirit
Part 2 If you are the kind of person that enjoys eating fruit, you'll probably see this scripture in a totally new way. When we eat fruit, it does the body good. In fact medical science has proven that eating fruit daily improves your overall health. Natural Fruit benefits the body in many ways, for one it gives you the much needed nutrients. They say that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Now the fruit of the Spirit encompasses nine qualities. These qualities are contrary to the works of the flesh. The flesh is fuelled by lust, passions and desires. The only way it gets fulfillment is through sin and whenever one commits sin - they break God's law. Lawbreakers know that there are obviously penalties for breaching the law- the severity of punishment depends on the offence. If you are caught speeding over the limit by 5km/h you will have a fine and some demerits but if you were to speed over the limit by 30km/h you're likely to not just face a fine but to lose your license as well - why because it's the law. God's law has a one size fits all policy - you break just one of it- you are guilty of all. This is something most of the world cannot comprehend. They look at themselves and feel that they are good and moral people. They do not steal, murder, fornicate and thereby feel they are just. Yet, if you were to ask them if they have ever told a lie, they most certainly will say yes - to tell a lie is to break the whole law. Some would say, well that not fair it was something I regret and it was just one offence committed twenty five years ago- well, there is no plea accepted even if it was just one because it is the law, the law is no respecter of persons and it does not reward good behavior. Those who acknowledge their offence(s) and accept the free gift of salvation that comes through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ are no longer under the law. Instead they are given the gift of His Spirit and are no longer guilty. That is what the apostle Paul meant when he said against such there is no law. Therefore if you live in the Spirit (i.e. have been made alive) then walk in the Spirit. You will know you are walking in the Spirit when you start to see His fruit evident in your life. It is not fruits of the Spirit but the fruit of the Spirit. You need not strive to have more patience. more peace or more longsuffering. The moment you start walking is the moment you start to discover living. This is the life of an overcomer, the one who has tasted of the goodness of God, the one whose transgressions has been covered and the one who is a recipient of His Mercy and Grace. Amen!
