Walking in the Spirit
Part 1 Do you enjoy walking? You walk because you need to, when you get out of bed, potter around get to work or do any kind of activity you have to walk. It is something we do unconsciously - we do not necessarily have to think about it, yet we just do it because it has become second nature to us. The same holds true spiritually in the analogy used by the apostle Paul that if we live in the Spirit let us also walk in the Spirit. All of us have experienced the liberating power of grace. Scripture tells us that we are saved by grace and it is not of ourselves it is the gift of God. Every aspect of our sinful nature has been covered, cleansed and crucified together with Christ. When the apostle Paul says " I live, yet not I but Christ who lives in me.." he is reiterating that fact. We have been brought into the glorious liberty as compared to being under the law - which is bondage. The question asked of us is this - if we being slaves have been granted freedom, what should we do with this freedom? It is highly plausible for slaves to continue to live like slaves because they do not know the war is over and won. The enemy of our souls wants to do everything to keep this key information from us. When one leaves slavery it must be for good - it is a permanent decision. The apostle was making an important distinction that those who are set free must live as free people. Paul says do not use your freedom only to wind up enslaved again because you do not know what to do. Over the next couple of weeks- I will get a little deeper into this subject but before I close I would like to leave you with a thought to ponder on - we have obtained freedom in the Lord therefore let us not give opportunity to the flesh for its rightful place is death. If we walk in the Spirit, we are led by the Spirit. It is a paradox that those who walk are being led. Have you ever seen someone helping a blind person cross the road, I am sure you can picture it in your mind - that is how we are led, we do not know how to cross over for the circumstances seem impossible, the challenge daunting and the fear real but the Lord takes our hand and says trust me I know exactly how. Allow Him today to gently take your hand and walk with Him. Amen! From a Hymn:
Chorus
Many things about tomorrow
I don't seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow
And I know who holds my hand
